Es liegt objektstrukturiert als Vektordatensatz vor und enthält somit punkthafte (Windräder), linienhafte (Verkehrswegenetz) und flächenhafte (Wald) Geometrien welche die Landschaftsteile repräsentieren. Das Basis-DLM wird bundesweit homogen nach den Vorgaben der GeoInfoDok 6.0.1 erfasst. Den Nutzern steht ein einheitlicher Grunddatenbestand zur Verfügung, der länderübergreifend als Mindestinhalt feststeht.
